Teaching

For over a decade, I’ve served as a trusted teacher for dozens of students seeking to become their best musical selves. From beginners to advanced students of any age, I find joy in meeting students where they’re at and investing in their musical futures. Whether you‘re seeking a career in music or just want to learn to play the music you like, I’m here to listen to your goals and identify a path to achieve them.

My lessons place a strong emphasis on practice strategies and the science of learning. Too often, teachers tell us what to do but not how to do it. Instead, I show my students the best ways to practice to maximize their learning and avoid the trap of endless practicing with slow results. I also believe learning piano is a foundation and a gateway to the wider world of music. With that in mind, I take a holistic approach that integrates music theory, technique, improvisation, composition, and performance skills into every lesson.

The music that matters to you matters to me. Whether that’s Bach, Beethoven, or Bowie, I’ll help you find material that is accessible so that we’re playing the music you’re passionate about right away. No two students are identical, and I tailor lessons to each student based on their goals and needs.

I teach lessons in-person in New York City. Contact here to schedule a trial lesson for free!

What people are saying

“Jason has been a remarkable and attentive piano teacher for our daughter. Our daughter expressed an interest in learning piano as a teen, and he supported her progress and understanding of the piano thoroughly. A talented pianist himself with exceptional training, Jason has served as a mentor to our daughter as she has expressed a desire to pursue a future in music education. He is kind, patient, adaptive in his lessons and interactions. We highly recommend Jason to pianists of any age or ability to assist in broadening their understanding and abilities with the piano.”

“My daughter has been studying piano with Jason for the last three years, and I have nothing but positive things to say about him. He’s an exceptional musician, a gifted teacher, and an all-around lovely human being. She has grown significantly as piano player and gained a much deeper understanding of music theory during her time studying with Jason. In addition to being a wonderful and talented musician, his lessons begin and end in a timely manner, and he communicates with parents in a clear, consistent and professional manner. He has high expectations but is consistently kind and made lessons enjoyable. My daughter will study music in college next year, and Jason has played an important role in preparing her for the next step in her life and musical training.”
